But the fruit of the Spirit is:
Here we are told the result of being indwelled by the Holy Spirit as believers in Jesus, a promise Jesus made to those who follow him as disciples. We today are those disciples and there is a difference between the roles of being a disciple and being a apostle which might be a good study for another time.
I'd like to focus on the process that one goes through before the fruit shows up and as one who has been with Jesus since I was 8 years old, you can imagine the experiences I can share.
My earliest one was at a time where the bully in school was tolerated. Late 1970's early 1980's. I attracted bullies like no one else. Maybe sometimes I deserved it, many times not.
My only recommendation is that your never start a fight with a bully but if it cannot be avoided, you stand your ground and finish it.
It was during one of these times that I did stand my ground and I had this bully pinned to the ground on top of him ready to pound his face in.
I raised my left arm as high above my head as I could and I could not make a fist! I literally could not make a closed fist!
Something was holding me back and that surprise pause startled me. It scared me.
I ended up slapping him, giving him a titty twister and letting him go and it wasn't until later I had realized and just had a knowing it was The Holy Spirit who intervened.
It may not sound like much, but even to this day, I could never close my fist and hit someone which may explain why I got into YMCA Judo.
The influence of The Holy Spirit for a disciple, for a believer is a life long process. When you consider the effort needed from a farmer to go from soil to fruit, its not something that happens entirely overnight.
One also desires to produce the best and most abundant "fruit" one can create and this is not at all accidental, it involves choices that we make daily.
We lean into with our daily choices just as the farmer leans into all the choices from soil to fruit.
If the "fruit" is your priority, just like the farmer, your going to clear any and all obstacles seperating you from your goal.
In our "spiritual fruit" goals, this may involve all kinds of changes in behavior.
You may be guided to spend your time differently, your friends may change, your vibrational energy may change and you won't resonate with certain things, people or events anymore.
How you spend your money may change and even how you earn money may be different.
You may become more aware of your lifestyle and how it is a hinderence to the "fruit".
Most importantly, have the courage to change no matter where you are in life. If the "spiritual fruit" truly is your goal, trust in where The Holy Spirit is leading you. This might be the hardest aspect of before the fruit.
The Holy Spirit could be leading you into a change that will have everyone around you scrambling for an explaination.
One thing is for sure, The Holy Spirit will never lead you into confusion. After you take as much time as you need in Prayer and Mediation with God, you will know exactly what needs to be done.
Far to often, we each know and we don't have to courage to follow through and the "fruit" suffers in the end.
